Lapis Lazuli is a semi-precious gemstone with an intense blue colour with flecks of white calcite or golden pyrite.

It has been used for millennia by the Egyptians and Tutankhamun's mask has a Lapis Lazuli inlay. It was also used for cosmetics, pigments and medicine.

Lapis Lazuli is the birthstone for both September (contemporary) and December (traditional), as well as being the Zodiac birthstone for Virgos
