Muonionalusta Meteorite: A 4-Billion-Year Space Legacy
The Muonionalusta meteorite is one of Earth’s oldest treasures, with a metallic core formed approximately 4.56 billion years ago. Discovered in 1906 within the Swedish tundra of the Arctic Circle, this rare iron-nickel specimen survived four ice ages after impacting Earth one million years ago. Each piece features the spectacular Widmanstätten pattern—a natural geometric lattice of crystals formed through a slow cooling process (1°C every million years) that is physically impossible to replicate on Earth.
