Blue John Jewellery
Our Derbyshire Blue John jewellery features this semi-precious mineral which was formed several million years ago. It is a form of fluorite with bands of a purple-blue or yellowish colour – the deeper the purple the higher quality the fluorite. It is only found in the UK in one location – the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton, Derbyshire. Blue John is becoming rarer and mining is now extremely limited each year, with only a small amount being made into jewellery.
