Hepburn and Hughes Art Deco Oval Earrings in Sterling Silver | Clarice Cliff Pottery | Garden Blue design

If you’ve been following the news recently, you might have caught a major headline that sent a wave of relief through the heart of the UK creative industries. Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a vital £120 million funding package designed to rescue and modernise British ceramics. From the historic potbanks of Stoke-on-Trent to world-renowned heritage brands like Denby Pottery, this funding represents a lifeline for an industry that has faced an existential threat due to skyrocketing energy costs and changing consumer habits.

For generations, British pottery has been the talk of the world, an art form entrenched in our cultural history. But as times got tougher and heritage manufacturers faced administration, it became clear that we weren't just at risk of losing businesses – our heritage was at stake too.

Hearing this news made us take a step back and look at the shelves in our own studio. For us, British ceramics are more than just a historic industry; they are a living, breathing legacy. And that is exactly why our upcycled ceramics jewellery exists.

Every Chip Has a Story, Every Crack Tells a Tale

Long before this government rescue package was announced, we were scouring auction sites, vintage markets and charity shops to find weathered and forgotten pieces of British pottery. Many of these pieces were stamped with the proud marks of Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, or Derbyshire. Instead of letting these fragments of history fade away, we chose to upcycle them.

When an industry faces a crisis, its past becomes even more precious. Our upcycled collection takes pre-loved, damaged, vintage British ceramics, such as Clarice Cliff and Blue Willow Pattern, and transforms them into on-trend pieces of sterling silver jewellery. By breathing new life into prew-loved pottery, we create sustainable products and preserve memories.

In a world dominated by mass-produced, disposable goods, there is something deeply grounding about holding a piece of pottery that has a lineage. When you buy a piece from our collection, you are holding a fragment of the very history the UK is fighting so hard to protect right now.

You are holding the resilience of craft: the physical manifestation of potters who kept kilns burning at 1,000°C for days on end to achieve the perfect glaze.

Moving Forward, Looking Back

As the UK ceramics industry prepares to modernise, transition to green energy, and step confidently into the future, this is your chance to bring a piece of that rich history into your own home.

We are overjoyed that British potteries are being given the chance to thrive once more. In the meantime, we will continue doing what we do best: hunting down the forgotten gems of our industrial heritage, polishing away the dust of time, and transforming them into meaningful treasures for you.
