Mahjong Pendant | Bamboo Suit Tiles | Chinese Game Gift | Sterling Silver

This pendant is made from a genuine Mahjong tile from the Bamboo suit, taken from a vintage set we bought in Hong Kong. The tile is around 30 years old and made from traditional bone and bamboo. We have set it in sterling silver with a solid silver back, so it is as sturdy as it is distinctive.

About the Bamboo suit

Bamboo is one of Mahjong's three numbered suits, alongside Dots and Characters. Each tile shows stylised bamboo sticks counting from one to nine, marked in red, green and blue.

What is Mahjong?

Mahjong is a tile game that originated in China in the 19th century. It is usually played by four people with a set of 144 tiles. Think of it as a cousin of rummy: players draw and discard tiles to build sets and runs.

Mahjong is a game that originated in China and is usually played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols.

There are 3 different groups of suits, numbered from 1 to 9.
There are 2 different sets of Honors tiles: Winds and Dragons. The Winds are East, South, West and North. The Dragons are Red, Green and White.
There are 2 sets of bonus tiles: Flowers and Seasons. The flower and season tiles are unique in the fact that each one has a different artistic rendering of a specific type of flower or season and that each design has only one tile in the whole set making a total of 4 flower tiles and 4 season tiles altogether.
