Mahjong Pendant | Dots Tiles with Numbers | Sterling Silver

These pendants use a Dots tile from a vintage Mahjong set we sourced in Hong Kong. The 30-year-old bone and bamboo tile is set in sterling silver with a solid silver back.

About the Dots suit

Dots, also known as Circles or Coins, is one of Mahjong's three numbered suits. The circles are thought to represent old Chinese coins, which had a square hole in the centre.

How Mahjong is played

Four players draw and discard from a set of 144 tiles, aiming to build a complete hand of sets and sequences. The game originated in China in the 19th century and is still hugely popular in Hong Kong.

Mahjong is a game that originated in China and is usually played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols.

There are 3 different groups of suits, numbered from 1 to 9.
There are 2 different sets of Honors tiles: Winds and Dragons. The Winds are East, South, West and North. The Dragons are Red, Green and White.
There are 2 sets of bonus tiles: Flowers and Seasons. The flower and season tiles are unique in the fact that each one has a different artistic rendering of a specific type of flower or season and that each design has only one tile in the whole set making a total of 4 flower tiles and 4 season tiles altogether.
