Description

Adorn yourself with the "Stone of the Mists." These elegant Isle of Skye Marble drop earrings feature hand-polished cabochons suspended from high-quality sterling silver ear wires. Combining minimalist design with 500 million years of Scottish geological history, these earrings offer a sophisticated way to wear a piece of the Inner Hebrides.

The Rarity of Skye Marble

Authentic Skye Marble is a finite treasure, originating from the ancient limestone seams of Torrin on the southern coast of the Isle of Skye. Formed during the Cambrian-Ordovician period, this is the only "true" marble found in the British Isles.

Each stone is a natural work of art, displaying a unique "mottled" landscape of soft sage greens, smoky greys, and translucent whites. Because we select and shape every stone individually, no two pairs are exactly alike, ensuring your jewellery is as unique as the rugged Highlands themselves.

Product Specifications & Quality

  • Premium Metal: Crafted from hypoallergenic .925 Sterling Silver ear wires for all-day comfort and security.

  • Sterling Silver Setting: Each marble stone is elegantly framed in a silver frame with a solid silver back, providing a refined finish from every angle.

  • Graceful Movement: The ear wire design allows the light to catch the natural mineral inclusions of the marble as you move.

  • Hand-Polished Finish: We treat every stone with artisanal care to highlight the depth of the "Skye Green" hues.

A Gift of Scottish Heritage

Whether you are celebrating your Scottish ancestry or seeking a unique nature-inspired gift, these earrings carry a profound sense of place. In folklore, Skye Marble is a stone of clarity and grounding, believed to help the wearer navigate life’s "mists" with intuition and calm.

They are a perfect choice for:

  • 35th Wedding Anniversary: A distinctive, local alternative to traditional Jade.

  • Heritage Travellers: A wearable memento for those who have walked the Cuillin Mountains.

  • Eco-Conscious Collectors: Ethically sourced stone paired with sustainable sterling silver.

This Scottish stone jewellery is part of our Isle of Skye jewellery collection

We also have a range of Lewisian Gneiss jewellery, which comes from the northerly Isle of Lewis.

Collection Information

Skye Marble is predominantly white, grey and black, with some green and yellow tones, and occasional hints of gold, blue and orange making fascinating markings and striations.

Marble from the Isle of Skye is a rare and beautiful type of metamorphic rock. It is primarily composed of limestone that has undergone metamorphism, often incorporating striking veins of white, green or blue hues due to mineral impurities such as serpentine. This gives it a distinctive appearance similar to Italian marble.

It has a number of uses, including as a decorative building material in churches and historic buildings, and in jewellery. It was used to build Armadale Castle in Skye and Iona Abbey, on the nearby island of Iona.

Isle of Skye Marble is not widely quarried today, but some small-scale extraction has taken place over the centuries.
