Description

Embrace the rugged beauty of the Inner Hebrides with our Isle of Skye Marble Adjustable Ring. This collection features the only "true" marble found in the British Isles, a rare and ancient stone that captures the ethereal essence of Scotland’s "Isle of Mists."

The Stone of the Mists: A 500-Million-Year History

Sourced from the historic quarries of Torrin on Skye’s southern coast, this metamorphic treasure was formed over 500 million years ago. Born from ancient Cambrian-Ordovician limestone transformed by the intense volcanic heat of the Cuillin Mountains, each stone tells a story of deep time.

The unique, captivating patterns—ranging from soft "misty" greys and forest greens to rare pink inclusions—ensure that no two rings are ever identical. Historically prized for its durability and elegance, Skye Marble has graced the halls of Armadale Castle and Iona Abbey, making this ring a true piece of wearable Scottish history.

Artisanal Craftsmanship & Design

Every piece of Isle of Skye Marble is carefully shaped and hand-polished to a high lustre before being set by our silversmiths.

  • Silver Setting: The stone is elegantly framed in .925 sterling silver, providing a contemporary look with traditional strength.

  • Solid Silver Backing: A hallmark of quality, the solid silver back ensures the stone remains secure and protected.

  • Adjustable Comfort: Designed for versatility, the adjustable sterling silver band allows for a perfect fit on any finger, making it an ideal gift when the recipient's exact size is unknown.

Symbolism and Gift Appeal

In Scottish folklore, Skye Marble is known as a stone of clarity and grounding. It is believed to help the wearer "pierce the mist" during times of transition, offering calm and intuition. This makes it a profound gift for:

  • Scottish Heritage Enthusiasts: A meaningful connection to ancestral roots.

  • Geology Lovers: A rare specimen from a unique British seam.

  • Special Occasions: A distinctive alternative for a 35th "Jade" anniversary or a graduation token for new beginnings.

This Scottish stone jewellery is part of our Isle of Skye jewellery collection

We also have a range of Lewisian Gneiss jewellery, which comes from the northerly Isle of Lewis.

Collection Information

Skye Marble is predominantly white, grey and black, with some green and yellow tones, and occasional hints of gold, blue and orange making fascinating markings and striations.

Marble from the Isle of Skye is a rare and beautiful type of metamorphic rock. It is primarily composed of limestone that has undergone metamorphism, often incorporating striking veins of white, green or blue hues due to mineral impurities such as serpentine. This gives it a distinctive appearance similar to Italian marble.

It has a number of uses, including as a decorative building material in churches and historic buildings, and in jewellery. It was used to build Armadale Castle in Skye and Iona Abbey, on the nearby island of Iona.

Isle of Skye Marble is not widely quarried today, but some small-scale extraction has taken place over the centuries.
