A Tiny Piece of Deep Time

Ammonites were ocean-dwelling relatives of the nautilus and lived for more than 300 million years. This Madagascan fossil is well over 100 million years old. In crystal lore, the ammonite's spiral represents life's cycles and continuous growth.

Madagascan ammonites were the predators of their time, feeding on most living marine creatures including molluscs, fish and even other cephalopods.

Originating from within the bactritoid nautiloids, the ammonoid caphalopods first appeared circa 380 million years ago and became extinct around 65 million years ago along with the dinosaurs.
