Why every stone is different

The white bands are layers of chalcedony laid down gradually inside cavities in the rock. Their spacing and shape depend on the conditions as the stone grew, which is why no pattern repeats.

Black Onyx and banded Onyx is the striped semiprecious variety of agate, and can have a jet black appearance, a marble effect or encircled with white bands.

Black Onyx is said to be a powerful protection stone which absorbs and transforms negative energy, and helps to prevent the drain of personal energy.

In times gone by Black Onyx was worn by soldiers for protection and success in battle.
